Damascus is one of the oldest Middle Eastern cities, established in 3rd millennium BC; it is part of the modern day nation Syrian Arab Republic and remains inhabited. This city has had many rulers, influences, cultures, and religions; Greece, Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Islam, and Israelis. As the midpoint between Asia and Africa, Damascus thrived both commercially and in the arts.
